Olde Towne Pet Resort’s Springfield General Manager, Dixie Eng, endorses charming book, Woofs to the Wise, authored by renowned etiquette expert Mary M. Mitchell

Dixie Eng, Olde Towne Pet Resort Springfield's General Manager, and Woofs to the Wise author Mary M. Mitchell

Our very own Dixie Eng, General Manager of our Springfield pet resort, is delighted to have been one of several folks to endorse the recently published book by respected etiquette expert and author of nine books, Mary M. Mitchell.

The book Dixie has recently endorsed, entitled Woofs to the Wise: Learning to Lick at Life and Chew on Civility, begins when Nessa, a woman from Philadelphia, visits her best friend, Mary, in Seattle. The two women hit it off, but are very different in their personalities. Mary’s patience and humor are tested, and she confides in her six-year old French Bulldog, ZsaZsa Pooch, to speak for her.

Dixie Eng, Olde Towne Pet Resort Springfield General Manager, endorses Mary M. Mitchell's latest book Woofs to the Wise

“I’ve known Mary for years,” shares Dixie. “In addition to being a cherished, longtime friend, Mary is the authority on civility and all things etiquette. She was the protégé of the late American etiquette expert Letitia Baldrige who was best known for serving as Jacqueline Kennedy’s Social Secretary in the 1960s.

Happy 10th To Us!! An Open Letter to Our Customers from Olde Towne Pet Resort Founder Leah Fried Sedwick

Olde Towne Pet Resort in Northern Virginia Celebrates Its 10th Year Anniversary!

I can hardly believe it’s been 10 years since my family and I opened the doors to our Olde Towne Pet Resort Springfield location. Honestly, sometimes it feels like just yesterday. My dad was instrumental in getting our Springfield resort open. The countless hours and endless details in preparation for our grand opening consumed, at the very least, two years of our family’s everyday life if not more.

We knew then in 2002 our family’s vision was going to introduce a completely new direction in pet care in our local area. Dad was deeply passionate about our family creating “The Ultimate Pet Care Facility.” Every single square inch of the Springfield resort was built with that very vision both in our minds and in our hearts.

And when our doors first opened in November of that year, my goodness! The crowds of curious pet folk and media were just insatiable. Back then, the whole pet boarding experience had been much more limited than it is today. We had constant media attention and were singled out for being one of the most innovative pet boarding facilities; and not just in our area but also well beyond the Washington DC metro borders.

Our family was immensely proud of our facility and its opening. It truly was a labor of love. We spent years thereafter devoted to caring for area dogs and cats. I can recall feeling so proud to know pet parents from far and wide entrusted us with their pet’s care.

Every time a family walked through our doors with their furry loved ones, I remember thinking about how much I’d want my own beloved dogs to have an exceptional, quality care experience. I wanted very much for our families to feel confident in knowing our pet care staff and Olde Towne Pet Resort family would provide their pets with the most TLC we could give during their dog’s or cat’s stay. After all, when pets come through our doors, we truly do become their home away from home. That was and is our mantra to this day.

Olde Towne Pet Resort First Opened Doors in Springfield, Northern Virginia in the Fall of 2002

Fast forward a decade later. We have since grown and, due to your continued support of Olde Towne Pet Resort, have been able to successfully expand our services by way of a new, second location in the Dulles area of Loudoun County. The expansion into Loudoun was inspired by our original vision many years ago which was then, as it remains today, to provide the utmost pet care experience to local families. And that’s exactly what we continue to do! The thousands upon thousands of pets we have cared for throughout the years — well over 20,000 pets in the past 3,650 days since opening our doors to the public — have been part of our pet resort’s legacy. As have you!

Now, as we look forward to the next ten years, we recognize many things are different. The economy as of late is not what it used to be. And the pet care climate today is far more abundant than when we first opened in 2002. These days, pet parents have many pet care choices available to them. And while surely it’s natural for some customers to move away or no longer have their pets, etc. a large majority of our customers have continued boarding with Olde Towne Pet Resort.

For those of you who have been loyal, repeat customers and for those families who have been with us since the very beginning, my family and I want to express our sincere, heartfelt gratitude for your patronage. THANK YOUOlde Towne Pet Resort wouldn’t be here without you and we are deeply honored to serve you and your wonderful, loving four-legged friends!

With great affection,

Leah Fried Sedwick

PS – I’m excited to report we are in the process of completing a new, mobile-friendly version of our web site! We will be rolling it out in the next coming weeks, just in time for your busy holiday boarding! Stay tuned…

In Springfield, we honored Ben Ramserran, Bather, as our Employee of the Quarter. Ben received many accolades from his co-workers who made an excellent nomination in honoring Ben’s consistent and positive work attitude. He is always willing to assist pet care after his bathing duties are completed.  He is willing to help with all tasks including snow shoveling. Ben is approaching his one year anniversary in September.  Honorable mentions were Christina Fry and Liz Allen.  Both received multiple glowing nominations as well.

In Dulles, we honored Carolyn Geis, Pet Care Associate, as our Employee of the Quarter.  Carolyn is approaching her one year anniversary with Olde Towne Pet Resort in August.  She began her career training in Springfield and was a member of the Dulles resort’s opening team.   Carolyn is passionate when providing care for our pets. Congratulations to Carolynn for her outstanding work.

Town Hall messages were delivered by the respective General Managers, Dixie Eng and Ellen Haynes.  Recognition of Employees of the Quarter and paychecks and tips were distributed.

In Springfield, the employees elected to have another pot luck meal.  With specialties like tamales, hot buffalo chicken dip, homemade cheese cakes, tres leches cake, and more yummy delectables. The supervisors who attended the last session of PetSaver® Pet CPR, First Aid and Care classes were presented with their certificates of training.

Last year the managers got dunked in the dunk tank.  This year everyone got soaked in a friendly game of hot potato water balloon style.  Prizes were given to the last one standing in each team without breaking a balloon.  Afterwards, everyone got soaked.

In Dulles, the staff enjoyed an Ice Cream Social with all the fixings and a water balloon toss. Fun was had by all.

The Springfield team challenges the Dulles team to a football game this fall and the Dulles team accepts.  Game on!
